Peristaltic Pumps

Spectrum Chromatography manufactures 2 peristaltic pumps with different flow ranges for use in low-pressure liquid chromatography. The most significant advantage of peristaltic pumps over other pump types is that the sample fluid has no contact with the pump. Only the replaceable pump tubing has contact with fluid stream. Not only does this eliminate the risk of cross contamination by simply replacing a piece of tubing, but it also provides different chemical compatibilities based on the tubing material selected.

The 2 pump drives offered by Spectrum are the MP-1 and MP-2 drives. These each use the same pump heads but have different flow rate ranges. Each drive can accept up to 3 pump heads and also has remote control capabilities which allow them to be stopped remotely (e.g. by a CF-1 fraction collector at the end of a run).

Two different styles of pump heads are available. The most common pump head is the Fast-Load pump head. This pump head accepts any flexible tubing with a wall thickness of 1/16" (1,6 mm) and an outer diameter of 7/16" (11,1 mm) or less. The tubing can be loaded into this pump head without removing the pump head from the pump.

The second style of pump head is the standard pump head. Each standard pump head each accepts only a single size of tubing. To load or unload the tubing from the pump head, the pump head must first be removed from the pump.

Peristaltic pumps also find frequent use as general-purpose laboratory pumps. To provide for maximum flexibility, we sell the pump drives and pump heads separately.
